Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It

Do you "Love Yourself"?

It is not an easy question to answer or write upon but Kamal Ravikant did it in simple and understandable way.

In December of 2011, Kamal gave a talk to an audience of scientists, Pentagon officials, politicians, and CEOs on the secret of life and how he figured it out the previous summer. Afterwards, people came up individually and told how much of what he shared meant to them.

This book is based on the truth Kamal spoke about. It's something he learned from within himself, something he believed saved him. And more than that, the way he set about to do it.

This is a collection of thoughts on what he learned, what worked, what didn't. Where he succeed and importantly, where he fail daily.

"The truth is to love yourself with the same intensity you would use to pull yourself up if you were hanging off a cliff with your fingers. As if your life depended upon it. Once you get going, it's not hard to do. Just takes commitment and you find it in this book."

Kamal did it. It's been transformative for him. It will also be transformative for you as well.

Kamal says,
I've been fortunate enough to have some amazing experiences in my life so far.
I've trekked to one of the highest base camps in the Himalayas, meditated with Tibetan monks in the Dalai Lama's monastery, earned my US Army Infantry patch, walked 550 miles across Spain, lived in Paris, been the only non-black, non-woman member of the Black Women's writers' group, written a novel, held the hands of dying patients, and worked with some of the best people in Silicon Valley.
But the most transformative experience has been the simple act of loving myself.

The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it.” ~ Brené Brown

In The Gifts of Imperfection, Brené Brown, a leading expert on shame, authenticity, and belonging, shares ten guideposts on the power of Wholehearted living—a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness.

Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate.

So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking,

"What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air?
Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations?
What will people think if I fail or give up?
When can I stop proving myself?"
In her ten guideposts, Brown engages our minds, hearts, and spirits as she explores how we can cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think,
"No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough," and to go to bed at night thinking, "Yes, I am sometimes afraid, but I am also brave. And, yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable, but that doesn't change the truth that I am worthy of love and belonging."

"This important book is about the lifelong journey from 'What will people think?' to 'I am enough.' Brown's unique ability to blend original research with honest storytelling makes reading The Gifts of Imperfection like having a long, uplifting conversation with a very wise friend who offers compassion, wisdom, and great advice."
—Harriet Lerner, New York Times best-selling author of The Dance of Anger and The Dance of Connection
"Brené Brown courageously tackles the dark emotions that get in the way of leading a fuller life; read this book and let some of that courage rub off on you."
—Daniel H. Pink, New York Times best-selling author of A Whole New Mind
"Courage, compassion, and connection: Through Brené's research, observations, and guidance, these three little words can open the door to amazing change in your life.'"
—Ali Edwards, author of Life Artist

"Brene Brown is awesome! This is one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors. You can check more about her video sharing in Ted Talks."

Do the Work By Steven Pressfield

Could you be getting in your way of producing great work?

Have you started a project but never finished?

Would you like to do work that matters, but don't know where to start?

The answer is Do the Work, a manifesto by bestselling author Steven Pressfield, that will show you that it’s not about better ideas, it’s about actually doing the work.

Do the Work is a weapon against Resistance – a tool that will help you take action and successfully ship projects out the door.

“There is an enemy. There is an intelligent, active, malign force working against us. Step one is to recognize this. This recognition alone is enormously powerful. It saved my life, and it will save yours.”

Do The Work isn't so much a follow-up to The War of Art as it is an action guide that gets down and dirty in the trenches.

Say you've got a book, a screenplay or a startup in your head but you're stuck or scared or just don't know how to begin, how to break through or how to finish.

Do The Work takes you step-by-step from the project's inception to its ship date, hitting each predictable 'Resistance point' along the way and giving techniques and drills for overcoming each obstacle.

There's even a section called 'Belly of the Beast' that goes into detail about dealing with the inevitable moment in any artistic or entrepreneurial venture when you hit the wall and just want to cry 'HELP!'

Baker from Man Vs Debt interviews Steven Pressfield new book, "Do The Work"

Reviews

After reading his book, The War of Art last year, I didn't hesitate to buy this one and could not stop until I finished it. As a lover of reading, I'm so glad that Mr. Pressfield does the work required to be a great writer--every day.

Steven Pressfield hits right where it hurts. Honest, valuable advice for those with artistic/entrepreneurial spirits. Get a kick and start working.

This book is just what I needed... I am fairly smart but have not succeeded to the level I should be capable of. The reason: negative self-talk that stymies my every move. This book puts a face on it, gives great insight into what's going on and solid advice for getting past it. Combined with some out-loud in-my-face affirmations I have started to get some things done I have resisted for years.

It is an easy read and makes a good 'bible' for dealing with those times when you find yourself stuck.

Unconventional presentation of the most conventional advice you'll ever get. This is a book for all time. Read it and you'll see.

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

Does things happen different of what you thought of ?

Do you sometimes frustrated with the result you achieve?

Are you stress-up with whatever is happening?

World-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck, in decades of research on achievement and success, has discovered a truly groundbreaking idea–the power of our mindset.

Dweck explains why it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success–but whether we approach them with a fixed or growth mindset.

She makes clear why praising intelligence and ability doesn’t foster self-esteem and lead to accomplishment, but may actually jeopardize success. With the right mindset, we can motivate our kids and help them to raise their grades, as well as reach our own goals–personal and professional.

Dweck reveals what all great parents, teachers, CEOs, and athletes already know: how a simple idea about the brain can create a love of learning and a resilience that is the basis of great accomplishment in every area.

Reader's Reviews
"Everyone should read this book.” — Chip and Dan Heath, authors of Switch and Made to Stick

"Will prove to be one of the most influential books ever about motivation."— Po Bronson, author of NurtureShock

"A good book is one whose advice you believe. A great book is one whose advice you follow. I have found Carol Dweck's work on mindsets invaluable in my own life, and even life-changing in my attitudes toward the challenges that, over the years, become more demanding rather than less. This is a book that can change your life, as its ideas have changed mine." — Robert J. Sternberg, IBM Professor of Education and Psychology at Yale University, director of the PACE Center of Yale University, and author of Successful Intelligence

"Highly recommended . . . an essential read for parents, teachers [and] coaches . . . as well as for those who would like to increase their own feelings of success and fulfillment.”– Library Journal, starred review

“A serious, practical book. Dweck’s overall assertion that rigid thinking benefits no one, least of all yourself, and that a change of mind is always possible, is welcome.”– Publishers Weekly

“A good book is one whose advice you believe. A great book is one whose advice you follow. This is a book that can change your life.”– Robert J. Sternberg, author of Teaching for Successful Intelligence

“A wonderfully elegant idea . . . It is a great book.”– Edward M. Hallowell, M.D., author of Delivered from Distraction

“If you manage any people or if you are a parent (which is a form of managing people), drop everything and read Mindset.” – Guy Kawasaki, author of The Art of the Start and the blog How to Change the World

The Happiness Project

Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun

Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus.

"The days are long, but the years are short," she realized. "Time is passing, and I'm not focusing enough on the things that really matter." In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.

In this lively and compelling account, Rubin chronicles her adventures during the twelve months she spent test-driving the wisdom of the ages, current scientific research, and lessons from popular culture about how to be happier.

Among other things, she found that novelty and challenge are powerful sources of happiness; that money can help buy happiness, when spent wisely; that outer order contributes to inner calm; and that the very smallest of changes can make the biggest difference.

Rubin is not an unhappy woman: she has a loving husband, two great kids and a writing career in New York City. Still, she could-and, arguably, should-be happier. Thus, her methodical (and bizarre) happiness project: spend one year achieving careful, measurable goals in different areas of life (marriage, work, parenting, self-fulfillment) and build on them cumulatively, using concrete steps (such as, in January, going to bed earlier, exercising better, getting organized, and "acting more energetic").

By December, she's striving bemusedly to keep increasing happiness in every aspect of her life. The outcome is good, not perfect (in accordance with one of her "Secrets of Adulthood": "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good"), but Rubin's funny, perceptive account is both inspirational and forgiving, and sprinkled with just enough wise tips, concrete advice and timely research (including all those other recent books on happiness) to qualify as self-help.

Defying self-help expectations, however, Rubin writes with keen senses of self and narrative, balancing the personal and the universal with a light touch. Rubin's project makes curiously compulsive reading, which is enough to make any reader happy.

A short glimpse of Gretchen Rubin book 'The Happiness Project' why is it a need to be read ...

Reader's Reviews
“An enlightening, laugh-aloud read. . . . Filled with open, honest glimpses into [Rubin’s] real life, woven together with constant doses of humor.” - Terry Hong, Christian Science Monitor

“For those who generally loathe the self-help genre, Rubin’s book is a breath of peppermint-scented air. Well-researched and sharply written. . . . Rubin takes an orderly, methodical approach to forging her own path to a happier state of mind.” - Kim Crow, Cleveland Plain Dealer

“Packed with fascinating facts about the science of happiness and rich examples of how she improves her life through changes small and big The Happiness Project made me happier by just reading it.” - Amy Scribner, Bookpage

"I enjoyed reading this book and found some useful tips. The book encourages the reader to reflect on his or her own life, issues, and level of happiness and then formulate a unique, individualized plan for change." - LaceyMom

The Noticer: Sometimes, all a person needs is a little perspective

Did you ever in your Life Time notice the gifts and talents given to you by your creator?

Did you ever spend a few moments looking at yourself ?

Ever spend a quiet moment thinking why things happen or for what purpose?

I am not sayings I am good at it but Andy Andrews has put it in simple words in The Noticer how to do it.

A new story of common wisdom from the best-selling author of The Traveler’s Gift. - Andy Andrews
Orange Beach, Alabama, is a simple town filled with simple people.  But like all humans on the planet, the good folks of Orange Beach have their share of problems—marriages teetering on the brink of divorce, young adults giving up on life, business people on the verge of bankruptcy, as well as the many other obstacles that life seems to dish out to the masses.
Fortunately, when things look the darkest, a mysterious man named Jones has a miraculous way of showing up.  An elderly man with white hair, of indiscriminate age and race, wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and leather flip flops carrying a battered old suitcase, Jones is a unique soul.
Communicating what he calls “a little perspective,” he explains that he has been given a gift of noticing things that others miss.

“Your time on this earth is a gift to be used wisely,” he says.  “Don’t squander your words or your thoughts. Consider even the simplest action you take, for your lives matter beyond measure…and they matter forever.”
Jones speaks to that part in everyone that is yearning to understand why things happen and what we can do about it.
Like The Traveler’s Gift, The Noticer is a unique narrative blend of fiction, allegory, and inspiration in which gifted storyteller Andy Andrews helps us see how becoming a “noticer” just might change a person’s life forever.

True sharing by Andy Andrews how he was rejected many times and yet achieved his dream of sharing to world what he intend to say out. Take moment listening to the Noticer !

Reader's Reviews
"If you pick up this book titled THE NOTICER, by Andy Andrews, don't make the mistake I made. Don't wait until bedtime to start reading it. When I picked it up last night, I had every intention of simply reading the introduction and then turning out the light and calling it a day. Having read everything Andy Andrews has written, I knew it would be a good and just wanted to see what it was going to be about. Well, there is no introduction, so I thought I'd just read the first few pages to get a feel for it. I finished reading it around 1:30 this morning. Yes, it's that good." - Monty Rainey (Don't wait until bedtime to start reading)

"The Noticer" by Andy Andrews is one of the best books I have ever read. The book could not have come at a better time for me to read, as I gained perspective. Amazing, inspirational, encouraging are just a few of the many words that could be used to describe this book. This is a book that I will read again and again. This is a book that EVERYONE should have and read." - Klauer (Inspiring, a must read!)

"A book that focuses on reminding the reader that one of life's most important traits is the ability to "notice" the gifts that we have in our lives." - S. J. Swanepoel "Stefan Swanepoel" (Never underestimate the power of a little book!)
